WETT inspections in Hamilton

WETT-certified inspections across Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek, Waterdown, and rural Flamborough and Glanbrook. Written report for insurance or real estate.

From century homes in the lower city and Dundas with original masonry fireplaces, to Mountain and Stoney Creek houses with 1970s builder fireplaces, to rural Flamborough and Glanbrook properties with wood stoves and outdoor furnaces, Hamilton has every kind of wood-burning appliance. Insurers ask for a WETT inspection on most of them. We are WETT certified and Hamilton is a few minutes from our Puslinch base.

Common Hamilton findings

Lower-city and Dundas fireplaces often have deteriorated clay-tile liners, missing or damaged dampers, and chimneys that were used for coal or oil before wood. Mountain and Stoney Creek homes bring 1970s factory-built fireplaces with clearances encroached by later renovations. Rural stoves are often owner-installed with floor protection or wall clearances that fall short of the manufacturer's instructions. We measure and document each against the installation code (CSA B365).

What you receive

A written WETT inspection report covering the appliance, connector, chimney, clearances, floor protection, cap and termination, and any creosote or heat damage, with photographs and clear statements of what passes and what needs correction. Insurers accept it; buyers negotiate from it. The inspection is usually combined with the home inspection on the same visit.

How the wett inspection works

  • Visual inspection of fireplaces, stoves, and inserts for condition, installation, and clearances.
  • Chimney and venting evaluation for blockages, damage, and draft.
  • Creosote and combustion assessment for fire hazards.
  • Component and safety inspection, then a written report with recommendations.
