Pool inspections in Hamilton and the Mountain

Pool inspections across Hamilton, the Mountain, Ancaster, Dundas, and Stoney Creek. Structure, liner, equipment pad, heater, electrical bonding, and enclosure, with a written report from a Puslinch-based inspector.

Hamilton pools come in two generations. The Mountain, Ancaster, and Stoney Creek subdivisions of the 1960s to 1980s hold thousands of in-ground pools that have been through several liners and equipment changes. The newer estates in Ancaster, Waterdown, and Binbrook have larger pools with salt systems, automation, and heaters that cost more to replace when they fail. Either way the equipment pad and the electrical bonding are where the money and the safety issues sit, and that is where a pool inspection earns its fee.

Mountain and Stoney Creek pools from the 1960s to 1980s

Older Hamilton pools often have original steel or concrete walls behind a replacement vinyl liner, galvanized or early PVC underground plumbing, and decks that have heaved where the clay soils on the Mountain move with frost. We check the liner, the coping, skimmers and returns, and the deck for settlement and trip hazards, and we run the system to see whether the pump holds prime and the filter pressure is reasonable.

Equipment that has been swapped piecemeal over decades is common. A newer heater on an old pad may not be bonded, the sub-panel may have been extended without a permit, or an older pump may run without ground-fault protection. We document each item so you can get the electrical pieces corrected by a licensed contractor before anyone uses the pool.

Newer Ancaster, Waterdown, and Binbrook pools

Salt-water systems are easy to live with but hard on metal: ladders, light rings, heater exchangers, and coping anchors corrode faster. Automation and variable-speed pumps are reliable until they are not, and replacement cost is high. We inspect what is installed, note the age where it can be read from the equipment, and tell you what is near the end of its typical life.

Hamilton enforces a pool enclosure bylaw with specific fence, gate, and climbability requirements. We check the enclosure as part of every Hamilton pool inspection and flag anything that the city or your insurer is likely to raise.

How the pool inspection works

  • Exterior and structure: pool surfaces, coping, decking, and surrounding area.
  • Equipment systems: pumps, filters, heaters, and plumbing.
  • Electrical and safety features: wiring, bonding, fencing, and gates.
  • Water clarity and visible issues, followed by a detailed report.

Full details, including what we can and cannot inspect, are on the Pool Inspections page.

Pool Inspections in Hamilton: FAQs

Do you inspect above-ground pools in Hamilton?

Yes. The scope is smaller, but the equipment, electrical, deck connection, and enclosure questions are the same and insurers ask about them the same way.

What about a pool heater that runs on natural gas?

We check that the heater operates, look at venting and clearances, and note the gas connection. Internal gas service is a licensed gas fitter task; we tell you when to call one.

Can the pool inspection be done with the home inspection?

That is how most Hamilton clients book it. One visit, one report that covers the house, the pool, and any WETT, septic, or well items the property needs.
